South African paralympic and Olympic star Oscar Pistorius has allegedly shot dead his girlfriend after mistaking her for an intruder in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened at around 4am South African time in Pistorius’ home in Pretoria.
The athlete is currently under arrest amid allegations he mistakenly shot her in the head and arm.
The athlete know as the “Blade Runner” made history in 2012 when he became the first amputee to compete in the Olympics.
He won gold in the 4x400m relay at the Paralympic Games.
The athlete had both legs amputated below the knee before he was aged one, because of a congenital condition, and runs on carbon fibre blades.
Last year Time Magazine named him as one of the world’s 100 most influential people.

The Super Eagles and coach were awarded land as well as cash for their win of the Afcon trophy on Sunday.
The head coach will receive N10 million while the players will gain N5 million.
